A different side of Japan.

Food, music, small bars, open skies. An evening can take many forms.

Choose a night. Make it yours.

JapanAfterDark helps international visitors choose a self-guided evening and understand the places along the way. Start with a Night Chapter, explore the Night Atlas, and keep your favourites in your Passport.

How we handle information

Place notes link to official venue, operator or tourism sources. We distinguish published information from details that still need confirmation. Opening hours, tickets and conditions are set by each venue; check the linked source before visiting.

Our chapter timings are suggested plans, not reservations or inclusive packages. We do not claim that a venue has space or that a particular staff member speaks English unless this has been confirmed.

Images and editorial voices

The atmosphere illustrations are generated images. A separately captioned Omoide Yokocho entrance photograph is credited to its photographer, with its date and reuse licence. They are not photographs of the named venues or their entrances. We do not publish invented interviews, endorsements or customer reviews.

Your Passport and privacy

Saved chapter and place IDs are stored in your browser’s local storage. There is no account and no cross-device sync. You can remove any saved item in your Passport. Browser storage also remembers your chosen colour theme.

Optional Google Analytics helps us understand which city guides are viewed, which chapters and places are saved, and which official links are used. It loads only after you choose “Allow analytics”. Google then receives usage and device information and sets analytics cookies. Advertising signals and ad personalization are disabled. We do not send search text, email drafts or your full saved Passport. Page URLs exclude query strings and fragments; external-link events contain only the destination domain and path. You can decline without affecting the guide, and change your choice using Analytics preferences at the bottom of any page. Withdrawing permission stops collection in this browser and clears its Analytics cookies; it does not erase data already collected. Hosting providers may retain routine access logs. External maps and ticket sites apply their own policies.
